Introduction: Buxtonella sulcata protozoa is one of the ciliated protozoa of ruminant digestive system, which is round shape. The habitat of this parasite includes the cecum of goats, cows, buffaloes, sheep, camels, and rarely humans. The mode of transmission of the infection has not been completely identified, but it seems that according to the life cycle of other parasites of the Piconotrichidae family, it depends on water and is mostly transmitted through the mouth in stagnant and fresh waters.
Materials & Methods: From the feces of 105 goats by gender, including 52 males and 53 females, and the age range is 4 to 7 years, during the months of July, August and September 1401, in livestock farms around Birjand, in a simple random manner and through direct sampling. A sample was taken from the rectum. 50 grams of stool samples were collected from each head and transferred to the laboratory in containers containing 70% alcohol, and first the samples were examined directly using a microscope, and the positive samples were tested by the Clayton Lane test using water flotation solution Saturated salt were investigated.
Results: An infection with Buxtonella sulcata was reported in a 6-year-old male fluffy goat that did not have any clinical symptoms. The presence of Buxtonella sulcata cyst in Birjandi goats was reported for the first time by observing the cyst of this protozoan in South Khorasan province.
Conclusion: Due to the contamination of cattle with this parasite, it is recommended to be careful when breeding goats and cows in the farm.
